Lincoln National Life Insurance

Lincoln National Corporation known as LNC is an American holding company which was founded in June 1905.  It has many subsidiary companies that deal with Life Insurance, Investment Management, Retirement and Financial Media.  The main subsidiary companies are the Lincoln Financial Advisors and Sagemark Consulting, Lincoln Life and Annuity Company of New York, Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, Lincoln Financial Distributors, Lincoln Financial Media and First Penn-Pacific Life Insurance Company.  The Lincoln National Life Insurance Company began in Fort Wayne, Indiana and at the suggestion of a Fort Wayne attorney Perry Randall, the name "Lincoln" was decided upon arguing that the name Abraham Lincoln inspired power and integrity.  In 1905 the company received a photograph from Robert Todd of his father and a letter authorizing the Company to use his father's image and name on the Company's stationery as well as for advertising purposes. By 1929 the Company had a large collection of books about Abraham Lincoln mainly due to the fact that the president of LNC Arthur Hall had a Lincoln scholar named Dr Louis A Warren working for the Company.  As the collection increased it became one of the largest collections in the United States dedicated to the life of Abraham Lincoln.  Since the Fort Wayne Lincoln Museum closed in 2008 the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield, Illinois is now the world's largest museum specifically dedicated to Abraham Lincoln's life and history.

Between 1990 and 2007 many of the Lincoln National Corporations assets have been sold as the Company began to concentrate more on Life Insurance policies.  In 1999 it moved its headquarters from Indiana to Philadelphia and later in 2007 the Company moved to Radnor Township of Philadelphia.  In December 2009 LNC had shareholders equity of $11.7 billion and consolidated assets of $141 billion.  It has many subsidiary companies which manage investment management businesses.  LNC is also the sponsor of Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia which is home field of the National Football League the Philadelphia Eagles.
