Guardian Life Insurance

The Guardian Life Insurance Company was first founded in New York in the year 1860 by Hugo Wesendonck and was called The Germania Life Insurance Company of New York.  Hugo Wesendonck was a German civil rights lawyer who first came to the U.S after being accused of treason in Europe.  When he first opened Germania Life Insurance Company with funds from German refugees it was mainly for the number of German immigrants that were arriving in America.    By 1868 it had become the first US insurance company to be operating in Europe as well as having agencies in the Dakotas, New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona.  As the Company grew it moved location and began doing business from Union Square in Manhattan.  However because of World War 1 it was forced to stop operating in Europe. The name of the company was changed in 1917 to the present name The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.  It later became a wholly mutual company where the policyholders receive the profits in the form of dividends on their policies.  Today the company employs more than 5,400 people in the United States and has more than 80 agencies nationwide.  It offers long term care insurance, medical and dental insurance, disability income as well as providing insurance policies to cover business owner's employees.  It has a network of over 3,000 financial representatives and on December 2009 had $42.7 billion in assets.

Today The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America which was founded in 1860 is a Fortune 300 Company.  Its headquarters are at 7 Hanover Square, New York and it is the fourth largest mutual life insurance company in America. It is a mutual Insurance Company and has no shareholders as the company is owned by the policy holders. This means that any profits are passed on to the policy holders instead of shareholders. Although many insurance companies first started working as a mutual company many of these companies are now public companies as a way of enabling them to make more money. Guardian Life Insurance has been in business for one hundred and fifty years and is committed to operating dental networks in the United States as well as protecting individuals. It is a reputable and trustworthy Insurance company and on 10th December 2009 in recognition of outstanding contributions to the City of New York received the Richard A Cook Gold Medal. All profits made are paid out in dividends to their life policyholders.  The Guardian Life Insurance Company employs many of their clerical assistants from Murry Bergtraum High School in Lower Manhattan which specialises in the training of students for business careers.
